Set within one of Birgu’s oldest buildings dating from the early 1500s, when the humble town became the first seat of the Order of St. John in Malta, Locanda La Gelsomina is the reflection of our family’s journey.

Tucked away in the heart of the ancient hamlet of Birgu, Locanda La Gelsomina features 4 well-appointed suites that open a window into a unique hospitality concept where East and West are harmoniously balanced.

This intimate locale has been sensitively restored to its former glory by our sister design firm, The Jasmine Studio, and traditional Maltese architectural features are offset amidst eclectic antiques, which we collected during our travels and over time. 

Birgu, or "Vittoriosa", is one of the island's three ancient towns known as The Three Cities. Locanda La Gelsomina is just a stone's throw away from Birgu's main historical sites that include the Inquisitor's Palace, Fort St. Angelo and the Malta Maritime Museum. Step outside and wander down the ancient lanes of this charming hamlet.

Discreetly off the beaten track yet well-connected to this magical isle's capital city of Valletta and key sights, Locanda La Gelsomina is a short stroll away from the water's edge where you can easily hail a local water taxi. Sail across the Grand Harbour on a Maltese dghajsa and find yourself in the cultural gem of Valletta.
